KEY CAN/ULC-S536 MONTHLY FIRE ALARM INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS
As per CAN/ULC- S536;
- A minimum or one initiating field device or manual pull station shall be operated on a rotational basis and the confirmation of both an alert signal and alarm signal confirmed or as otherwise outlined in the building Fire Safety Plan.
- The primary annunciator should also be inspected to confirm the tested device annunciates correctly.
- Operation of the common audible and visual shall be tested on a monthly basis.
- Buildings which also have voice communications systems are also required by CAN/ULC-S536 to confirm two way communications of emergency handsets and proper voice paging on a rotational monthly basis.

- This section stats that all work of special fire suppression systems is to be done in conjunction with the referenced applicable standard.

FIRE HYDRANT INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS
As per NFPA 25:
- Private Fire Hydrants (both Wet & Dry Barrel) shall be inspected at intervals not greater than 1 year and again, immediately after every incidental operation.
- All testing and maintenance procedures shall be carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
- Manufacturer specifications state that maintenance will require the removal of the internal operation parts for visual inspection, lubrication and replacement of worn or damaged parts.
- Upon removal, lubrication and reassembly, the Fire Hydrants are then serviced for operation to ensure that the isolating gate valve was turned back on and that the hydrant is left in working order.

KEY NFPA 10 PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS
As per NFPA 10;
- Fire Extinguishers shall be inspected at intervals not greater than 30 days as outlined within NFPA 10. This includes confirming location, operating nameplates are intact, safety seals are in place, and examination for obvious physical damage, corrosion, leakage and clogged nozzles.
- Internal Examinations of portable fire extinguishers vary from 1-6 years depending on extinguisher type.
- Hydrostatic Testing of fire extinguisher cylinders varies from 5 to 12 years dependent upon extinguisher type .
FIRE EXTINGUISHER TESTING
- Stay compliant. As outlined in Section 6.2 of the BC Fire Code, portable and wheeled fire extinguishers are required to be maintained in accordance with NFPA 10. This standard calls for the inspection of portable fire extinguishers at a minimum of 30 days and a maintenance interval of not more than 1 year. As per Part 2 Section 2.8 of the BC Fire Code;
- The fire safety plan shall conform to all outlined measures within BCFC and be made in conjunction with the Fire Department and any other applicable regulatory authorities.
- Part of all plans need to include up to date building drawings including diagrams outlining type and location of building fire emergency systems.
- Special requirements are necessary for all Care and Detention Occupancies as well as Assembly Occupancies and High Buildings.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING INSPECTIONS
You can count on Community Fire Prevention to keep you safe. Over the course of a year, many buildings experience some form of a power outage. When that occurs, it’s crucial that Emergency Lighting and Exit Signs are fully operational to guide building occupants to safety.
EMERGENCY LIGHT TESTING REQUIREMENTS
As per Section 6.5 of the BC Fire Code;
- Emergency Light Packs are to be inspected at intervals not greater than 1 month to ensure pilot lights operate, that there is no terminal corrosion, batteries are kept clean and dry, and that the unit will transfer to DC power in the event of a power loss.
- Annually the emergency light packs will require testing to ensure the emergency lighting units will provide lighting for duration equal to the design criterion under simulated power failure.
- Upon completion of an annual test, charging conditions for voltage and current are measured to ensure the charging system is functioning correctly

KEY CAN/ULC-S536 MONTHLY FIRE ALARM SYSTEM INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum or one initiating field device or manual pull station shall be operated on a rotational basis and the confirmation of both an alert signal and alarm signal confirmed or as otherwise outlined in the building Fire Safety Plan.
- The primary annunciator should also be inspected to confirm the tested device annunciates correctly.
- Operation of the common audible and visual shall be tested on a monthly basis.
- Buildings which also have voice communications systems are also required by CAN/ULC-S536 to confirm two way communications of emergency handsets and proper voice paging on a rotational monthly basis.
