At Community Fire Prevention we will make sure all emergency lighting work is completed to B.C. Fire Code Standards. Simply walking up to the unit and hitting the test switch quickly does not qualify as an annual emergency light test on such a vital piece of equipment.
Emergency Lights provide you and your staff with the necessary lighting required in corridors, stairwells, ramps, aisles, and exit passageways during temporary power outages in order to exit safely. If your emergency lights fail to operate properly during these occasions, exiting the building safely can become a real nightmare.
If you require your annual inspection or need something installed or fixed have someone on your staff call 604.944.9242 or email service@comfire.ca.
Did you know? The National Fire Code states that a functional test shall be conducted on every required emergency lighting system at 30-day intervals for a minimum of 30 seconds. This test can be performed by an in-house employee or a Community Fire Prevention Service Technician.
The annual test shall be conducted for the prescribed amount of time as required under the B.C. Building Code. The battery charger itself must also be inspected to insure that the charger is providing the required amount of voltage and current to properly maintain the batteries charge within each unit. Written records of visual inspections and tests shall be kept by the owner for inspection by the authority having jurisdiction.
An annual service test consists of
Prescribed amount of time full function test
Disconnect AC power supply to each emergency light
Check battery and lens for sulfation
Clean each emergency light and lens as required
Adjust beam for proper alignment
Troubleshooting/repair may also include
Checking and adjusting charging system voltage
Checking battery output voltage
Check line voltage to remote fixtures
Place Testing Tag on the emergency light and Record in Testing Log
